The wood for the timber structure arrived today - 10 bundles like the ones above. A lot of wood, grown in Poland. This was one of those difficult ecological decisions. Do we purchase inferior quality wood from local Irish sources which have dubious ecological credentials, and which we will need more of due to its lower strength. Or do we use higher less higher strength wood from slower growing and (hopefully) more sustainable forests in Poland. It is a tough one, and in the end we went for the better quality but higher wood-miles.
The timber for the floors and roof will remain on site, but the timber for the walls will be taken to the large agricultural shed about 1.5km away where we will be building the wall panels.
